Tony Barry

Tony Barry is Visiting Fellow at the Australian National University and is a well-known commentator on the Internet in the Australian information context.

Abstract: Many commercial websites are adding multimedia glitz and glamour to their pages, a 'whoopee cushion' effect, in the hope of attracting more people to view them. In so doing they are neglecting content and causing problems for those with only phone access, older equipment or software. Regretfully this trend is moving to library sites where it is quite inappropriate and reducing their functionality. The paper surveys the practice of some Australian libraries.
