Creating Public Library Policies: From Chaos to Clarity
Proudly sponsored by the Queensland Public Library Association
Monday 20 September 2004
1.30pm - 4.30pm
Venue to be confirmed

Why should busy public library managers spend valuable time writing policies? Isn't it enough to tell staff what the rules are? In a word - no! Written library policies are essential for effective library operations. This workshop introduces attendees to the tools they will need to review, revise and update library policies. During the workshop, participants will learn how to complete an inventory and assessment of their current policies, how to design a process to develop new policies and revise existing ones, and how to communicate policies to staff, library users and other stakeholders.

June Garcia has over 30 years experience as a public librarian. Her experience includes six years as director of an urban library, twelve years as the administrator of a branch library system and five years as a branch manager. She has served CEO of the CARL Corporation, and as Vice President and Chief Ambassador of TLC/CARL, both major library automation companies providing integrated systems to public libraries and consortia. Ms. Garcia is now a managing partner, along with Ronald Dubberly, of a broad-based consulting company serving the library industry.

Ms. Garcia has been a frequent speaker at library conferences on a wide variety of topics relating to public library planning, branch library services, measurement and evaluation, facilities planning, and intellectual freedom.

Kinetica Cataloguing Workflows Workshop
Tuesday 21 September
1.30pm – 5.00 pm
Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre
Kinetica is holding a series of Cataloguing Workflows Workshops in all States and Territories in the second half of 2004. The workshops aim to:

An additional workshop will be held prior to the ALIA conference. This workshop is aimed at Kinetica customers who are unable to attend workshops in their own state, but are attending the ALIA conference.

The maximum number of attendees at the workshop is 20. Registrations for the workshop can be made online at http://www.nla.gov.au/kinetica/cataloguing/form.html. Further information can be found on the Kinetica Website at http://www.nla.gov.au/kinetica/.
