Post Haste the Millennium:
Opportunities and Challenges in Local Studies

12-13 November 1999

2nd National Local Studies Conference, Rose and Crown Hotel, Guildford, Western Australia

The conference aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of local history enthusiasts and to promote understanding and collaboration between individuals and organisations committed to the preservation of Australia's cultural heritage. The conference programme features:

  • International, national and local presenters
  • Australia at the millennium
  • Importance of movable cultural heritage in Australia
  • Management of local history resources
  • Management of heritage places
  • Researching family and community history
  • Technology and local history

Venue

The conference venue is The Rose and Crown Hotel, Swan Street, Guildford, Western Australia. The original inn was first built in 1841 and is the oldest hotel still trading in Western Australia. It was a stopping point between Perth and the outlying areas of the colony. Guildford was established in 1829 and has many historical buildings, including the Guildford Museum complex and antique shops, all within walking distance of the Hotel. Vineyards and restaurants in the Swan Valley are within a 10-15 minute drive. Guildford is only 10 minutes by car from Perth Domestic Airport and 20 minutes by electric train from Perth.
