Going out after the cocktail party in the city:
Opera Bar - the best Sydney has to offer; fantastic views, great atmosphere, delicious cocktails, good wine list and variety of nibbles and main dishes
Aurora Bar & Elevation - across the road from the Mitchell Library it's nice and close, has outdoor areas great for summer weather and is pumping on a Friday night
Martin Place - lots of bars in close proximity and a short walk from the Mitchell library, recommendations would be MPB, Veranda Bar or Chambers
And if you're feeling adventurous and fancy a longer walk King Street Wharf is great in summer, right on the water there's plenty of places to eat like Wagamama and great bars, very popular with the local crowd like Bungalow 8 and Cargo. If you get to Cargo Bar early enough try to get upstairs for a good boogie (lots of great djs) and great views.
Saturday night after the Dinner:
Coogee is the closest destination and both Coogee Bay Hotel and the Palace are very busy on a summer Saturday night but also full of English backpackers.
Paddington is a short taxi ride away and includes many great locals on Oxford Street such as the Paddington Inn, the Lightbrigade, Beauchamp, Ruby Rabbit or Middle Bar. Or off the main drag, but just as much fun try the London or The Royal at Five Ways.
