Business downtown I

Developing a Knowledge Environment via an Enterprise Information Portal

Therese Bendeich

Synercon Management Consulting

In the emerging era of Enterprise Information Portals (EIP), information professionals could capitalise on their skills to be in a powerful position by using their professional attributes in capturing and distributing corporate knowledge. This paper will discuss how, through the use of the corporate internet, electronic document management systems, knowledge maps and other tools, the EIP could be used to: increase business intelligence by analysing corporate knowledge and information needs; increase staff knowledge enterprise-wide through communities of practice and transfer of knowledge; enable connections between staff, business functions and applications, and information through web technologies. Most importantly Therese will discuss how to create positive attitudes toward 'ownership' of information.
